Posts taken from the journal that I kept during the trip.
Douglas' 4th trip --Bill and I each making our 3rd to Pearlington, Mississippi. Left the house a little after 4:30AM, arrived at terminal (after parking in long term lot), and checked in with Brittany.
Arrived in Dallas and met up with the other half of the group. After a change of gate and delay, we finally got out and headed to New Orleans. Upon arrival there we had to circle Baton Rouge until thunderstorms cleared.
Upon arrival, Brittany, Bill, Gail, Pete, and Alex left immediately to get rental cars while the remaining 23 collected a mountain of luggage. As usual, the rental place wasn't ready with 5 vans. 2 members of the group were missing pieces of luggage. Brittany kept in touch w/me by cell with updates.
Finally we all got into the vans--3 of them brand new, and headed for Slidell, LA. After a long wait while Brittany had to do 16 rooms individually, we dropped off luggage and headed for dinner---except that Brittany's van wouldn't start! Finally we took everyone except for Sandy and Brittany, to Pizza Hut. It was closed "due to lack of staff"! We walked next door to Wendy's. They said we could use a credit card but it would only take about $40 at a time so Bill had to repeatedly run his card. Just as Gail ordered food to go for Brittany and Sandy, they arrived--the car just finally started!
Folks then headed for Walmart but I just needed to collapse. Unfortunately the smoke in the room and from next door is bothering me.
Breakfast is from 7-7:30AM and we have to leave at 7:45AM.
It's a good group I think. I hope the "new folks" aren't disheartened by all the delays.
We've arrived safely and are thankful for that :)
